Becoming an Specialist

My father told me years ago, I think it was about mid-way through my 30-year career in hospital administration, that the way of the future is becoming a specialist in something.  He said that many years prior to the internet.  It turns out that it is the Internet itself that has made my father’s advice so relevant and true today.

I had always held myself out as being a generalist during my career.  It was the doctors, nurses, various therapists and even my administrative staff in human resources, finance etc. who were the specialists in their respective fields.  I should have taken my father’s advise because I not have specialized expertise in anything other than the very broad field of management, that some might consider specialized.  As an entrepreneur, however, I find it largely irrelevant.  There is just too much information to manage and vastly diversified markets to serve in today’s world.  The only way to compete is to develop a specific skill and identify a niche in some area to be successful.

Only this week have I chose to learn and become skilled in Google Adwords as a specialized expertise.  Once I accomplish that, I will bring that to my entrepreneurial endeavors.  Although I have only started, so far I am finding it enjoyable, which is another entrepreneurial enssential.  I will follow up in a couple weeks and discuss how I am doing.

About a week and half ago I learned of a new social networking site that pays it members for referrals.  There have been a number of attempts over the past several years to accomplish this.  I participated in two and neither has progressed to any level of success.

Click YourNight and join a multi-featured social network site that is already paying it members every month.  The phenomonal fact is, since January of this year when the program was launched, nearly 100,000 people have joined.  You have a choice of free or a $10 a month fee the latter of course will generate a larger amount of income.

Besides the income factor, what I like best about the site is I can easily separate my friends from my business associates.

My Wealth Expanding

It was around the middle of 2005, I came to the realization I was not going to create wealth or financial freedom with a JOB; a good income, perhaps, a great income, rarely, but not wealth.  In fact, most of my life all I wanted was to make at most, a $300,000 a year salary. Wealth never crossed my mind as a possibility.  Thanks to the 1910 classic The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. I began studying network marketing or multi-level marketing/MLM as a means to create wealth.   Many people say to me, one of those things; you mean one of those pyramid schemes?  My response is an emphatic,  definitely not.  The question astounds me, knowing, it is the more traditional businesses that are organizationally structured as pyramids; with their top executives and owners always making more money than the people working for them.  Sadly, there are only a handful of universities that teach network marketing.  Dr. Charles King, a Harvard Business School graduate, teaches it at the University of Illinois at Chicago. (See below)  Robert Kiyosaki, author of the long time New York Times Best Seller, Rich Dad Poor Dad states, “In many ways, network marketing, to me, is a revolutionary way (emphasis added) to achieve wealth.”  Perhaps that explains why traditional businesses and academia have been so fearful of the industry.

I mentor new and experienced network marketers, and people wanting to become successful network marketers regardless of the particular MLM or network marketing company one may be affiliated or interested.  I do so Free and without any obligation.

Love At First Sight

Webster defines wealth as an abundance of valuable possessions or resources; riches, the state of being rich, affluence.  I found it interesting that nowhere in the definition is money mentioned.

I have always thought of wealth in terms of money and as I continue that thought, I expand it to include my family which I enjoyed over this Memorial Day Weekend.  I am forever grateful for them.  I, particularly, found exciting the instant love expressed between my 7th month old daughter and four month old grandson who met for the first time.  They instantly fell in love with each other.  My wife asks,”how did we forget to do this?”

I am present to the love in my family and the world.  I am clear all the money in the world will never replace the love we can ultimately express with one another.

Frustrated Network Marketers–98% of Us Are

First, take yourself out of the category of being frustrated.

If you look, you and I are only frustrated at times.  We are not always frustrated.  When we are attending an exciting business presentation or training event, we are rarely frustrated. When we are enrolling new customers and independent representations, we are not frustrated.  We are excited and empowered.  But when get that first “no” to our opportunity, the opposite sets in.    Frustration feels so comfortable at times; being the victim means we are not responsible.

What I’ve learned about frustration is that it is a choice in any given moment regardless of the circumstance.  That is why I am writing this post.  I am choosing empowerment, creativity and excitement instead of frustration.

Earlier this morning, I became frustrated over the number of business and training opportunities that come to my email address each day.  Although I continuously unsubscribe to these mailings, I am continually bombarded by more opportunities by email and by phone.  I also took particular note of another activity.  I noticed that various leaders in my MLM Company are developing and sponsoring their own training sites for their teams, even though the company has training.  What compounds the issue is these leaders many times are on the same team with many of the same members in their down line.  It is my hope that the trainings are at least consistent with the company’s and each other.  But, even if they are, it leaves members with having to decide which one to follow or trying to follow them all.  I actually created a group for my team several months ago.  In doing so, I emphasized and continually emphasize the purpose of the group is solely for members to share their stories and support one another.

Stock Market Down 777-Bail Out Does Not Pass

4:00PM, Today On Wall Street

I am not an expert on the financial markets or Wall Street.  I am, however, of the strong opinion that the fact Congress did not pass the 700 billion dollar stock and credit markets bailout is a good thing for the majority of Americans in the long haul.  With the country’s enormous debt, and the failing economy, it is clear that the economics and financial strategies in this country over the past few years has failed to say the least.  Throwing more money at it, does not seem like the prudent thing to do.  Let the stock and credit markets and financial industry transform themselves for the better, perhaps with the assistance of government but not with an out and out financial “bail out.”
